Advantages of LED Lights

LED lights, which stand for light-emitting diodes, are known for their efficiency, durability, flexibility, and power-saving benefits.  In fact, LED's are becoming more and more widely-used in today’s market, even for indoor and outdoor lighting, due to these reasons.

LED's are known for their long life.  An average light-emitting diode lasts from 50,000 hours all the way up to 100,000 hours.  Yes, think about it – your average lamp can last over 10 years, nonstop, without having to be swapped out.  Think of how useful an LED light would be for a hard-to-reach spot or all the way up on a high ceiling.  Compare this lifespan to fluorescent lighting, or even worse, incandescent light bulbs.  Incandescent light bulbs only last around 1,000 to 5,000 hours, depending on quality, not to mention their other disadvantages.  Even the commonly used fluorescent lamp only gets from 10,000 to 20,000 hours.

Yet another benefit of using LED Lights is that they contain no harmful chemical, unlike fluorescent lights.  Mercury, a toxic element, is used in fluorescent lamps and most HID technologies, and is very dangerous.

Can LED lighting really save energy and money?

Take a look at the statistics. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that widespread adoption of LED lighting by 2025 will:
  • Reduce electricity demands from lighting by 62 percent.
  • Eliminate 258 million metric tons of carbon emissions.
  • Reduce the amount of materials being put into landfills.
  • Avoid the building of 133 new power plants.
  • Save the US over $280 billion.

Trip to Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) April 6-9, 2013

Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition)

Dear All,

I would just want to share with you some of my observations, experiences and the new inputs I got during my visit to the fair which are as follows:

1. There are more new products that I saw compared to last October like the Neon LED, LED that can be controlled by IPad not only to dim it but also to control the color from PW to Red or any color.

2. There are more suppliers that sell LED Drop lights, Track Lights which include the the fixtures (integrated), wall lamps, Chandeliers and all other accent lighting with built-in fixtures.

3. There are a lot of new products using COB, even for spots and tubes.

4. The prices are lower and will further go down. The price erosion is predicted to 16% per year (ave.) during the next 5 years.

5. The forecast made by one of the speakers is that the total LED Market is expected to grow 18% per year in the next 5 years. Personally I believe it is going to be more 20% but the quantum leap will happen 3 years from now.

6. The market is getting increasingly demanding as far as quality is concerned and there is going be a shake out in the near future. The weak companies (not necessarily the small ones) will be eased out of the business by those who have strong and solid foundation in terms of product quality and customer care/service.

I hope the above info can be of value to you and your company.
